Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist with a strong background in the development of biomaterials for drug delivery and tissue engineering. Research scientist will employ principles of materials science, cell culture, microbiology and toxicology in the development of bioresorbable wound dressings impregnated with medicinal substances. Primary duties will be to conduct research on the characterization of biomaterials in a range of in-vitro assays and in-vivo small animal studies, manage biocompatibility studies, write research reports for publications, and ensure timely completion of projects.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Lead and manage interdisciplinary technical projects by developing project plan and timelines, assembling the project team, executing the project in time and budget, and managing internal and external stakeholders.
- Excel in a high-energy team environment and be capable of making sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and incomplete information typical of research and development.
- Design, plan and perform scientific experiments on assembly, characterization and performance of polymeric films impregnated with medicinal substances.
- Design and plan in-vitro antimicrobial tests against a broad spectrum of microbial strains.
- Evaluate combination of new polymers, biomaterials and medicinal substances.
- Identify and solve analytical problems.
- Supervise research assistants, interpret and analyze data, write reports and present results.
- Write scientific research proposals for federal grants and manage federal awards.
- Write documents for regulatory submissions and manuscripts for publications.
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions to support Commercial Product Development.
- Some travel required.
Minimum qualification and experience:
- Education/Experience: A PhD or postdoc in biomaterials research, with 1-3 years work experience in academia, medical device, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Excellent technical writing skills are a must.
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience in addressing complex scientific problems.
- Practical or theoretical knowledge of various analytical methods, such as GC-MS, NMR, TEM, SEM, HPLC, and ICP-OES.
- Practical or theoretical knowledge of various cell-culture based assays, cytotoxicity assays, biocompatibility testing, fluorescent microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy.
- Proven track record of innovative project contributions through publications and patents.
- Experience in writing research proposals for federal grants.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred experience:
- Experience in research on wound healing, skin diseases, burns, biofilms, antimicrobials and anti-inflammatory agents
- Experience in regulatory affairs
- Experience in medical writing, clinical protocols or regulatory filings
- Experience in project management
- Experience with product development under a quality management system
